Case Study: Joe Barone for Judge Campaign
Client: Joe Barone for Judge Campaign
Industry: Political Campaign
Services Provided: Location Production, Multi-Camera Direction, Post-Production, Scripting & Storyboarding
Objective:
PanaMotion Imaging was brought on to create a series of compelling videos for Joe Barone’s 35th District Judge campaign in Michigan. The content needed to showcase Joe’s professional legal expertise and his active community involvement, with the aim of appealing to a broad voter base. The deliverables were intended for multiple platforms, including TV spots, social media, and Instagram reels.
Pre-Production and Planning:
The campaign team proposed several filming locations, including the Barone Law Offices in downtown Plymouth, which was chosen as the primary setting for the interview portion of the campaign. After reviewing images of the office space, we agreed it provided the perfect balance of professionalism and warmth for the interview setting.
Additional locations such as Kellogg Park in Plymouth, The Summit in Canton, Northville Square, and the 35th District Courthouse were selected for B-roll footage. These community-centric spots helped capture Joe Barone’s involvement with the public and provided a backdrop for his connection to the local area.
Filming Approach:
We completed the main interview shoot at Barone Law Offices with a full-day production, utilizing:
Multiple lights for an optimal, well-lit environment.
Two cameras for dynamic angles, capturing close-ups and wide shots to keep the visuals engaging.
A teleprompter to assist Joe with the smooth delivery of his message.
This setup provided high-quality footage for the interview, ensuring Joe’s message was presented in a polished, professional manner.
Campaign Highlights:
Joe Barone was actively involved in local events, including the Liberty Fest Run in Canton and Art in the Park in Plymouth, which we filmed for B-roll footage. We also planned to capture additional interactions at local farmers' markets and Music in the Park in Plymouth. These events were key to showing Joe’s personal connection with his community, reinforcing his commitment to local values.
Scripting and Storyboarding:
Initially scoped for 4-6 scripts, the project expanded to 10 scripts, allowing for more flexibility in crafting the campaign’s message. We worked closely with the campaign team to refine these scripts, ensuring each video highlighted different aspects of Joe’s candidacy—from his legal experience to his engagement with the community.
Post-Production:
In post-production, we edited the footage into multiple deliverables suited for various platforms:
TV spots: Professionally polished videos with a concise message and strong visual appeal.
Social media: Content optimized for Facebook and Instagram feeds, featuring dynamic cuts and visually engaging shots.
Instagram reels: Shorter, punchier versions of the campaign videos, focusing on community events and personal moments.
Our post-production team carefully edited the footage, applied color grading, and integrated clean transitions. No 3D animation was needed, allowing us to focus purely on storytelling and the natural flow of the footage.
Outcome:
The final campaign package was well-received and widely used across various media platforms. By balancing professional interviews with dynamic, community-centered footage, we helped the Joe Barone campaign deliver a message that was both authentic and compelling. The videos were successfully broadcast on TV and shared across social media platforms, including Instagram reels, extending Joe’s reach to a broader voter demographic.
PanaMotion Imaging’s ability to execute multi-camera direction, effective location production, and sharp post-production editing helped create a visually dynamic and impactful campaign that highlighted Joe Barone’s qualifications and his deep ties to the community.
